It seems that Poseidon, is derived from Greek "posis" (lord) and δαFον (dawn) water in some IE languages: Lord of the waters.
Poseidon is actually composed by the elements "poton" (water, drink) and "dē/das" (earth), hence the deity of seas and earth/earthquakes.
