Latinized form of Greek Σαραπίων (Sarapion), which was derived from the name of the Hellenistic-Egyptian god Serapis. This was the name of a saint who fought in the Third Crusade of 1196, a Mercedarian friar, later martyred. Also, Serapion was also frequently used as a first name in Georgia and Russia, but can be considered as rare (in both countries) nowadays.
