Meaning & History

Etymology uncertain. Shalash was a goddess worshipped in the Hurrian, Eblaite, and Babylonian pantheons. She was considered to be the consort of the god Dagon. In the Hurrian tradition Ḫepat was their daughter, and Shalash was worshipped as a part of the Kaluti (or offering lists) of both Ḫepat and Šauška. Her Mesopotamian equivalent was Ninlil.
