According to popular etymology, this name was suggested by Julius Mägiste in the 1920s and is derived from the Estonian word sinisirje "blue-feathered". This was a word associated with an attribute of a magical bird in the Kalevipoeg, an epic poem by Friedrich Reinhold Kreutzwald which is widely held to be the Estonian national Epic. It may also be linked to to the word sirjelind, a dialectal word found in folk songs meaning "bluebird".https://www.linkedin.com/search/results/index/?keywords=%20SIRJE&origin=GLOBAL_SEARCH_HEADER(Information from name #42763 originally submitted by user Amara L.)
