My parents thought it went well with my first name, and although it’s short, I prefer this spelling compared to Skye (although that one is very pretty too). I’ve received compliments on my middle name before, which is a bonus haha.
Sky is also Dutch, derived from the English and Norse vocabulary word, used for both genders in the Netherlands. The popularity chart for the Netherlands should be a further indicator of that. Sky can also be used as a short form of Skyla, Skylar, Skyler, Schuyler, etc. :D.
Sounds like a disease, honestly.
I really love this name, for either gender. I think it's beautiful. I mean, think about it; the sky contains many amazing things, like the stars, the moon, the sun, the clouds, rainbows, and many beautiful pastel colors... Plus, someone with this name will always have a reminder that the Sky is the limit ❤️

(Anonymous) People that are hating on it on this page because it's a 'thing', think about the names Holly, Daisy, Iris, Ivy, Rose, Brooke, or Savannah which are names of plants, a stream and a desert, why can't you name someone after the Sky? Or Hazel, Bianca, Violet, Scarlett are names of colours. Gail = wind. Stella = Star. What about Olive?! What's so different about Sky? Except that it sounds better and has spiritual connotations. Use your brain!I'm half Chinese/half British and have read many fiction books about Chinese culture plus non-fiction and biogs, people name their children things like 'Snow', 'Winter', 'Reflections of The Moon', 'Beautiful Smile', 'Swan soaring high in the Sky' etc it's not 'hippy' I think it's more meaningful than Western names that are just sounds with no meaning. Your children are the most important thing you will ever create, why not name them something meaningful and beautiful?Who pissed on your parade?!
I love the name Sky/Skye. Sky can also be a nickname for names like Skylin, Skyla, Skylar and Skyleigh. Beautiful and heavenly.

This is a beautiful name, it reminds people of peace and happiness. I don't find it a hippie name and it's actually quite rare, despite all the hate comments I would call my daughter or son this.

As a teenager, Ferreira began uploading videos on Myspace of herself singing songs she had written, which led to her discovery by producers Bloodshy & Avant and an eventual recording contract with Parlophone in 2009. She released her first extended play, As If!, in 2011, which combined elements of electropop and dance music. Ferreira's second extended play Ghost, however, incorporated pop with more stripped-down song structures and featured collaborations with Jon Brion and Shirley Manson, as well as the critically acclaimed track "Everything Is Embarrassing", which she composed with Dev Hynes.

My almost 6 year old son is named Sky, and when I was pregnant, people would say "What are you going to name him?" I would say, "Sky," and they would then offer their un-asked-for opinion, "You can't be serious! That sounds like a Hippie name!" Well, I was serious, and I still love the name. It fits him well and was easy for him to learn to write. ;) Ha ha.

I really like this, it's cute and quite unique. If I was naming my child this, it would have to be a middle name though. Can't work out whether I prefer this spelling or Skye.
I actually think this is a pretty hot, fun name, though that's probably because of someone I know.
This isn't as terrible as some other modern names. I've met a Sky and she was not the shallow, Barbieish type or the hippie described. It may seem shallow or ridiculous, but it's much better than "Ocean" or "Princess". Yes, it may not be your cup of tea, but it isn't as juvenile as Sunshine. "Sky" won't haunt someone their whole life. It's actually kind of pretty, in my opinion.
This can also be a male name, as in the case of Sky Masterson, a character in the musical Guys and Dolls.

I really don't understand these people who are putting a downer on this name. Yes, it is not a traditional name, but neither are many of the names that we come across these days. Plus, it is technically NOT an object. No-one has the physical ability to pick up the sky, move the sky, or any of the things that would be possible with an actual object. On the whole, I find it a beautiful name even if it is not the most original of names.
My personal impression of the name Sky [Skylar, Skye, Skyla, Skyanne.] Is that it is yet another name invented by the new wave of mothers who see thier daughters as absolutely PERFECT little princesses, who deserve celebrity furniture and high-end clothes. "Sky", to me, sounds like the little girl in preschool wearing Juicy Couture. My impression of the name - take it or leave it.
Skye looks prettier and more ''name-like''. This is a nice enough name, but I wouldn't use it for a boy. Whereas Skylar sounds masculine, Skye sounds feminine. Whatever you do, don't combine this as a middle name to something like Summer, Winter, Autumn, Heaven Lee, or other names that will give this a meaning in the English language, as it sounds awfully tacky, and people like that seem to end up teaching in elementary schools and middle schools, jobs from HELL. I mean, they aren't very serious or mature names that give you credibility for more. This is better as a first name, and can be hyphenated with something simple, like Sky-Anne.
It kills me inside to meet another child named Sky because her mother thought it would fit her. Sounds like a freakin hippie! I would like to know why all of the sudden people are naming their poor children after freakin objects! Come on & be real, most logical people would think the name-givers were high at the time. The '60s are OVER!
Means "cloud" in Norwegian, but it is pronounced like SHE and is not used as a name.
I don't understand why people would name their kid Sky. That isn't even a REAL name, it's a word. Duh! Eventually you people will be naming your kids Computer, Toilet and Ocean. Please? Use a real name for a change!
Well, I personally don't understand why we HAVE to stick to the typical names. They get boring. They've all been used a million times for ages, compared to these 'word' named whcih are relatively new. I'd name my children Luna, Sky, or Lake, for example. They are brilliant as names. EMBRACE NATURE. XD
