Sylvia, spelled as Szilvia is a very popular name in Hungary. It was super popular in the 1980s all the way to the 2000s. I was born and raised in Hungary and have known many ladies with the name Szilvia. I was shocked to learn that the name Sylvia is much less common in the US and is considered an old lady name by some. I don’t agree with that in any way and I’m overjoyed to see Sylvia becoming more popular. The most common nickname to Szilvia is Szilvi, which is pronounced the same way as Sylvie.
