Wama

Wama is the name of a Latin American character popularised by the late Mexican comics industry giant Joaquín Cervantes Bassoco. The character himself first appeared in an unknown newspaper in 1938, as a comic strip. One of his main enemies, Tac-Bong, first appeared in 1940, when the strip moved to the Mexican Mondial Newspaper. Later, Wama gained a stronghold in the Chamaco magazine and lasted for nine years in that magazine, from 1944 to 1953. As a character in the Chamaco magazine, Wama was so popular with Mexican boys and men that he later appeared in his own eponymous magazine by a rival of Chamaco as well as Mondial, the publisher CEM, which lasted for four years, from 1954 to 1958. Like his much more popular spin-off successor, the compatriot Tarzanid Tawa, whose partner is Paty (aka Patricia), Wama has his own wife called Lupita. Not published in France.
