We used to believe the souls of our parents were reborn in their decendants. The word yejide comes from three words, Iya = mother, ji = wake, de = arrive. Yejide means literally "our mother has come back from the dead" which is why we only call girls Yejide. Boys are called Babajide.

No offense to anyone, but Yorban names have strange meanings. Almost like sentences.

Yes, they have "sentence" meanings, because priority is placed on the meaning, not how nice it sounds.
