Meaning & History

Feminine form of Pasquet or Paquet, medieval French pet forms of PASCAL. Folk etymology links the name with modern French paquet (Middle French pacquet) "parcel, package". Paquette Perrault Le Clerc was the mother of Charles Perrault (a famous re-teller of fairy tales) and Claude Perrault (a famous architect, writer, and physician). The name was also used by Voltaire for a character in Candide.
