Meaning & History

Georgian form of Abessalom, which is the hellenized form of the Hebrew name 'Avshalom (see Absalom).

In Georgian literature, Abesalom is the name of a central character from the medieval Georgian folk epic Eteriani. He also features in the opera that was based on the tale, namely Abesalom da Eteri (1919) by Zacharia Paliashvili (1871-1933).
