Meaning & History

Possibly derived from Old Norse Arnhildr, "eagle battle". Alternatively, could be from the Old English elements ār "honour, glory, grace" (see aizō) and hild "battle". This was the name of a saint from Oldbury-on-Severn. See Arilda.
