I personally don't like the sound of Lucifer. It was the name of the awful cat in Cinderella, so that's the only connotation it has for me. I will always think of the fallen angel, but it doesn't really effect me one way or the other. I don't like Lucius either, but Lucian in quite nice.

My name is Lucia so I guess "Lucifer" is a name cousin of mine. I actually have been jokingly called "Lucifer" a few times by friends.

I wouldn't recommend it -- if you like the meaning, there are quite a few similar names for boys: Luca, Lucas, Luciano, Lucius, Lucian. I think the association with the fallen angel Lucifer would be too strong for most people the boy would encounter.

It wouldn't work in any Judeo-Christian country, even a less religious one. It's just too much and cruel for the child, sorry. It would be like calling your child Evil, Devil or something. Even an atheist wouldn't do it, because it's a traditional thing, not only a religious one.

It's tragic, really, that this name has become so unusable; I agree that it has a beautiful sound and wonderful meaning. As an atheist, the association with Satan doesn't hold much sway with me personally, but I still wouldn't use Lucifer because of the trouble it would undoubtably cause its bearer. I've never lived anywhere but the US, but I doubt you could get away with it in any other countries either. For now I'm content with Lucius, which I love anyway. Perhaps you could use it or Lucian instead of Lucifer. Similar meanings and sounds, but without the devil connotations.

I like it a lot, and I'd use it (if I had about ten sons, though, because it's not at the top of my list). Myths are only myths, even when contemporary people with loud voices tell them. What's the worst that could happen to a boy named Lucifer because of his name, really? It's not like people would believe he was the devil incarnate because of his name -- the worst thing is that it would indicate he comes from a non-Christian family. That's not so bad -- it's not any worse than naming a kid Christian, in my opinion. I wish people would just go ahead and use this beautiful, strong, classic name and stop being cowed about it! It'd take off.

Hmmm... interesting name. I really have to say that this name does have a beautiful sound to it. Even though I can see the appeal in it, I don't think that a child with this name could escape its religious connotations in any country. Sorry. :(

I like it, but prefer Lucas or Lucius.

I'm sorry, it's nmsaa. I just don't like the way it sounds. Plus, I think a lot of people would tend to think of Satan, at least in the US.
