[Opinions] Bartholomew?
Now, before you all slap me upside the head for even considering it, I must say this: Even I have limits as to how geeky a boy's name I like can be, but I used the name Bartholomew in the Name the Next Baby game I'm currently hosting and I can't seem to get it off my mind. I don't know why or how, but it happened. So, what do you think of Bartholomew? What about the nickname Batt? The worst insults I can come up with are Batman jokes like, "Holy horse-hockey, Batt-man!" and "Hey, did you get here on the Batt-mobile?" and the saying, "Like a bat outta heck." Can anyone come up with worse insults?

I like Bartholomew, even though it's not something I'd necessarily use. I think it would be great in the mn spot (I like shorter fn's for some reason). Don't really care for Batt at all, nor Bart. My fave nn for it is Tolly (blame Array and her Ptolly for this :b).

Bartholomew is a nice enough name, but I could never use it for personal reasons. I think Batt is a terribly NN, though. Even without the insults, it's still bat. Sorry.

I love Bartholomew (though I've gone off on it for my own children), but I would call him Tolly as a nickname. That's part of why I like Ptolemy so much--there's the same nn possibility, but I'm still quite fond of the full name.Batt makes an all right nickname.Array

Love Love LOOOOVE it! Love the nn Bat even more! I think it would be cool for a little boy to have the association with Batman, you have a built in party theme... "Come Celebrate with Bat-Man!!!"xoxo

Bartholomew by itself is gorgeous - I get a strong mediaeval monk feeling from it (probably because of the Matthew Bartholomew books, which are set in middle ages Cambridge, although the title character himself is not a monk).Batt is awful, though, sorry - 'batty' is slang for 'crazy', and I'm sure he'll be called Batty a lot. Plus I just don't like the sound. Also, parents can only go so far in ensuring that their particular nickname is used. He'd still get called Bart, and the kids would have no trouble rhyming it.If you don't mind taking the risk about kids noticing the 'Bart' part of the name, I'd suggest Bartholomew "Tolly". It's cute, and it's far less teasable. WDYT?

Teasing! there's a Canadian writer named Farley Mowat;reasonable name, you'd think...seems all his school days he was called "Fartley".

Bartholomew is very handsome. There is a charachter on an Australian tv series whose name is Bartholomew "Bart" (or ocassionally Homer) and its really grown on me. Definately fits with your other names.
Not sure about Batt. I prefer Barty (like Barty Crouch from HP)

Bart or Barty as a NN for Bartholomew only serves to remind me of a crass and crude cartoon, The Simpsons. I don't know if you have this cartoon Down Under, but it isn't something that I really want to name my kid after. Now, Barty as a NN for Bartemius is a different story...Although neither Barty Crouch, Sr. nor Barty Crouch, Jr. are exactly fantastic role models (you'll know why if my assumption that you've at least seen the movies is correct), I do like the name.

Yeah of course we have the Simpsons in Australia! lol.
I love Bartemius so much, its so different and handsome, plus im obsessed with HP even if Barty Crouch isn't a good name sake...
