[Opinions] Nikita
Boy's name or girl's name? I originally had it down for a girl, because the two Nikitas (well, one was Nakita) I've known were girls. Here, most people think it sounds better on a boy, and now I'm not sure. I like the nn Kita on a girl better than a boy.... but I'm starting to warm to Nikita for a boy. I just don't know. Any thoughts?tia

Boy through and through. As in: Nikita Krushev.

I think if you ask any question on this board re: names that were male - but are now used for females - you're going to get the answer that it's inappropriate, wrong and ignorant. It's just the nature of this board...For myself - I like the name for both girl's and boy's. I think it's more common on girl's in English speaking countries - which makes me personally prefer it on a boy - but if I lived in Russia - I'd probably prefer it on a girl :) As an aside, one of the girl's I knew named Nikita was Indian, and she said it was a Hindu name? I don't know any more than that - but would be interesting to look up if there is a separate history for the name (oher than the Russian lineage).

Boy, only boy, please!Nikita's 100% only male in Russian, its language of origin. I think it's disrespectful to intentionally use a male name from another culture for a girl merely because it "sounds like a girl's name". To unintentionally do the same just smacks of ignorance to me.I would use Nicola for a girl.

Nicola is nowhere near Nikita... and people do it all the time with English names.

Sounds more like a girls name, but . . .but I dislike it on either gender, personally. Although I find it MUCH, MUCH better on a male than female.
