[Opinions] Re: Beryl
Love it. Beryl Markham wrote a very interesting book, but I can't think of the name of it. Anyone? She flew a plane in 1930's Africa. I know a Beryl in her 60's. The only weird part is she pronounces it "burl" as in Burl Ives. I always thought it was pronounced like Meryl or Cheryl.

Maybe the Beryl you know is saying it 'correctly', then? BtN says it's pronounced BER-il, which to me is just as unattractive as the "barrel" sound I assumed (like Meryl or Cheryl, as you said). But mostly I just think of Burl Ives. :b

It looks pretty on paper, but I want to prounounce it like "barrel" which just doesn't have a pretty connotation. I'm sorry.

Bah when i see the name Beryl I think of an elderly woman with too many cats and errgh just elderlyness lol... i dunno why but any Beryl ive ever known is old, its about as appealing as other elderly names like Mavis and Doris LOL not meaning to offend anyone if i have.. :S
