[Opinions] August
I saw a young August today in our museum store! He was probably about 12 or 13. The only other real live August I've known was female, a girl from ballet classes when I was younger.WDYT of August? Would you use it for a girl or a boy, if at all? Would you prefer it as a first or a middle name? If you used it as a first name what NN would you use, if any?

I really like it on a boy, and really dislike it on a girl. I'd use it as either a first or middle name. It seems like a very friendly name to me. I doubt I'd use a nn, but if I did, it would be Gus.

OOooh, I love August, it's been my top boys name for about 4 years, although every so often (including currently) it sits at #2 spot. I definitley want to have a son called August one day. I'd call him Gus about 50% of the time, as well as Augs and Auggie occasionally. I like it both as a fn and a mn.It's most definitley all boy to me, although I suppose if you take it as a word name it's fair game for either. But I consider it a name that is also a word, not a word name, so all boy to me.

Like it, but only for a boy. Works as a fn or a mn imo.:)

I would use it on a boy, so that I could say it was a traditional German name too, but I can see it working for a girl too. I love it, but unfortunately I have an ex with this last name. It would look fishy if I used it one day. A shame since I really love it. I would have considered it for both the fn and mn spots. I wouldn't use a nickname for it.

I adore August and also Augustin. I hate it on a girl, hate it. It is SOO handsome on a boy. I would use it as a first name, and I would love to use the nickname Gus or Gus-Gus! I like August Alasdair and Augustin Claude.

August is my favorite name for a boy [m]And I only see it as a boy name. It was very common in Sweden in the late 19th century. I read somewhere that almost one quarter of the male population was named August (first name or middle name)! I understand that August also is a month in English and thus makes it ok for a girl, but I just can't see it on a girl because it is so masculine to me.
I would of course prefer it as a first name and I wouldn't use a nn.

I love August for a boy. I like it for both a first and a middle name. I knew an August who had gone by Augie, but I am not sure if it has stuck with him as he got older. I don't mind that nn.
