Message: "Makai" - Behind the Name

Makai (muh-KYE) is probably my favorite boys' name right now. And I think Mak and Kai are just about the greatest nicknames in the world!

Do you think it sounds too last-namey (McKay) to be a first name?
Is it strange if we have family friends with that last name?

I like it.

Its not something I would use myself.
but my mate has a young son named Makai William (his older brother is Xavier David).

I really like Makai, though I prefer Mekhi. I'd like to like the Biblical spelling, Machi, but I don't think many people would know how to prn it.

I on't like Mak or Kai though. If I named my kid Makai, there's be no nns.

I think it's interesting. It sounds nice to me and looks fine as well. I'd prefer Malakai "Kai" / "Makai".

The pronunciation reminds me of a Dutch football player named Makaay (mah-KIE): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Makaay

It sort of reminds me of the African Tribe, Masai, so that is somewhat of an interesting connotation, but unfortunately its use reminds me of the octomess this past January, in which Baby H was named Macai.

I'd prefer Macaiah with the nickname Makai. It's much more elegant to me.

Sorry, but I really dislike it. I think it sounds made up and ghetto. And it makes me think of macaw. It doesn't sound close to McKay though, so that shouldn't be an issue.

McKay can be pronounced muh-KAY or muh-KYE. The family we know is muh-KYE, so it's not just close it's the same.
