[Opinions] Victory
I have been thinking of Victory as a name. I really like it as a girl name and I think it adds unique character. What do other people think? Is Victory a good name? What are some good nicknames for it? Also, I just made up Neila as a feminine version of Neil, which I love! Is Neila good or are there better feminine versions of Neil?

a friend of mine married a girl named Neeley which is sort of similar to Neila. I like Victory as a name, I also have really started like Jubilee as a name (is it too much?)

I love Victory as a name. Such an attractive word, makes such an attractive name, great meaning. Victory might make a refreshing alternative to the more common Victoria (says the mother of a Victoria.) It just doesn't have quite the same elegant connotation as Victoria, and not the same historical significance, but still, it's great.Neila? I'll have to think about that one.

I'm not a huge fan of Victory as a name, but I'm not strongly against it either. I cuold see Vix as a nn, although she'd probably get a lot of vixen comments so maybe not. Vita Sackville-West was named Victoria or Vittoria. How about Victory, nn Vita? And here's where I confess to adoring the name Victoire. How great is that "-twahr" sound? I'm beginning to get hooked on "w" sounds in the middle of things where we're not used to them.

I absolutely LOVE it for a horse. I've never thought about it on a human before. I like it, but I don't think just anyone could pull it off. NNs... Vicky and Tori / Tory are the obvious ones, but maybe Vi or Torya would be more interesting? Victoria "Victory" might be kind of cool too.Neila is good, but I had to look at it twice to see whether it was Neila (NEEL-a) or Niela (nee-EL-a), or NYE-la... I suppose Neely could be used as a feminine form for Neil? Neily? Neili? Neille? Neila is probably the best option so far.

Victory reminds me of V-day at the end of World War II. I think it could be a cute name though.

It's nms. I like Victoria, but its history justifies it ... Victory as a word name seems more to deliberately express desire for winning. Neila is good enough, but I have to say with apologies to zachlyn, that it sounds a little bit like "kneeler" and that is not so good. I strongly doubt I'd think of that at all if I met someone named Neila. I think I kinda like the idea of Nialla [NY(uh)-la].

If someone had suggested the name Neila I would have crinkled my face and said no, I don't think so. I don't like the name Neil and feminine forms of boys names aren't my favourite and it ends in the trendy -la. However, when she was born she looked like an alien (huge cone head and big black eyes) and I mentioned that alien backwards is Neila. Finally, my husband was excited about a name, so I was happy. And yes, kneeler the peeler is a bit of a problem, but I don't dwell on it :) Plus, the meanings I found: champion, cloud, passionate make up for it :) Nialla is really pretty. I know a two year old Niall.

most awesome name-choosing everI love it, amazing! Can't believe that the nurse would refuse to write it down, what a poop.

thanks. At the time it really angered me, but now I just think silly nurse :) I kept the ID card.

Oh dang, and I was just coming around on Neila until your mentioned the "alien" backwards thing. :o)

Hehe, the alien thing is what made me come around to it :P

We hope that when she gets to the age when kids start spelling their names backwards she thinks it's cool instead of being mortified by it :) When she was in the NICU the nurse refused to spell her name Neila after my husband told her the story - she thought it was a horrible thing to do - and wrote Nila on the ID card. Oh, well. The way I see it the fewer people who like the name the fewer Neilas will be running around :)

True enough. More power to you!

Hey, I kind of like Victory! I hadn't thought of that as a name before. I suppose it would be alright. Nicknames- Tori, Rory, *Vicky, and *Vic. I think it would be feminine.
Sorry, but I'm not a fan of Neila. I like Neil alright but Neila...
*Personally, I hate these names, but that's just preference. Some people might like them.

One of our posters has a daughter named Neila :) There's also apparently Neilina, and I kinda like the idea of a girl Neily. Seems kinda hip and tomboy-chic.I like Victory. I like a good y-ending name.

That's me :)Neila is the feminine form of Neil. (I don't really like Neil) I like Neilina.

Ooh, I really like Neily. I don't think I could ever use it, though, but I'm going to add it to my long list on my computer.

You have a long list of names on your computer? Me too!

Yep, it's probably over sixty pages by now because I write descriptions, meanings, nickname possibilities, etc. with each entry. I'm obsessive.

I like Victory as a guilty pleasure, and only for a girl. I don't think I would ever use it as a first name, but maybe a middle. I can't come up with any good nicknames for it, because I don't like the obvious ones, Vicky and Tori.
