[Opinions] Cáit vs Kate pronunciation
I'm reading a book set in Ireland, and one of the characters changes her name from Cáit to Kate when she moves to America. But the book suggests that these names are pronounced differently. Anyone know? Irish people?

I think it has regional variations:

Well, Caitlin is like cawt-leen. So I assume Cait must sound somewhat like the word caught.

I'm terrible at writing out pronunciations but my Papa (who is Irish) pronounces Caitlin kind of like coit-leen. It is like caw sound and the i sound is ever so brief. I assume Cait is the same.

Funny I was just debating these last night. I think Cait with the fada is kind of like Kawtch or Koht. I think if you want the Kate pronunciation and want an Irish spelling you use Ceit. I was wondering if the Cait spelling without the fada looks made-up. I really like it.

According to an Irish friend of mine, Cait is usually pronounced somewhere between 'ket' and 'kite'. Hope that helps!
