[Opinions] Joanna vs. Johanna?
Thoughts? Johanna here would likely be pronounced jo-HAN-uh, like the Bob Dylan song, or jo-AHN-uh (like the Sweeney Todd song). I really can't say I'm at all fond of the German or Dutch pronunciations. ETA: I'm American, so more than likely the "j" would be pronounced like a g, as opposed to a y, anyway

I like them both. But I think it's kind of weird when people pronounce Johanna without the H. I like it pronounced jo-HAN-a. If you pronounce it jo-HAN-a I like Johanna better. Simply because I like Hannah better than Anna. I also like Johannah because it makes the pronunciation clearer. I really like Joanna as well. The only thing I dislike about both names is that people could call her Jo.I know 4 Joannas, 1 Joana, 1 Johanna (jo-HAN-a), 6 Johanna (yo-HUNN-a, all German) and 1 Johannah (like Jo+Hannah).

I really like both of them, and can never pick which I like better. I see Joanna with more dark color and Johanna with more warm color, so it depends on my mood.I'd never expect anyone to pronounced Johanna like jo-AHN-a though. And in Sweeney Todd they pronounce it the same as Joanna anyway, not jo-AHN-a. I think people where I live would say yo-HAHN-a more than like Joanna if they weren't going to pronounce it like Jo+Hanna. I had a friend Johanna all through school and she got yo-HAHN-a sometimes, but never Joanna. But we live in a very Dutch area too.

Joanna and Johanna aren't pronounced the same where I live. Johanna is common in my age group, Joanna is still quite uncommon.
I prefer Joanna. Johanna seems dated and boring imo.

Joanna.

I much prefer Joanna. It seems lighter and more delicate than Johanna. Come to think of it, I don't care for Hannah either.
