Middle-agreed former valley girl. Sound is move but I can't escape that association.

I like it. It has that slightly dated but never super popular vibe going, which I kind of enjoy. And I think it's pretty without being annoying about it. It can suit a lot of different personalities. I'm not a huge fan of Val, which is really the only drawback I see.

The only people called Valerie that I know are over 60 and all answer to the drab Val.
However, I saw a baby Valerie on an episode of "The Dog Whisperer" - a beautiful little girl and I thought "Pretty name. How great to see a Valerie and not yet another Madison, Makayla, etc!"

I dig Valerie. I've recycled it as a character name several times, always in fun stories with plenty of action, where I have a heroine who may be facing danger and defeat but is still a smart aleck. Valerie has the perfect vibe, imo: smart, capable, kinda gritty/kinda not, hard to date, hard to pin down class-wise, but a little more "boots and a beat-up jacket" than "heels and a cashmere coat." And, bonus, Valerie has Val, one of the best no-nonsense, takin' care of business nicknames, à la Kate, Meg, Sam, or Lou. Yep, I really like it. For combos, I like Valerie Bridget, Valerie Hannah, Valerie Carmen, Valerie Kaia, Valerie Margaret, Valerie Maura, and Valerie Charlotte.

I thought about it the other day. I like it.

I love it, but only spelled this way. I have seen/known Valorie and Valarie, and see no need for these variants.

I like Valerie a lot. I was actually going to post about it as i have been warming up to the name, but I'm an awkward person and I know that RoxStar has a daughter named Valerie so I would feel weird bringing it up, lol. I get the same vibe as others have mentioned, no-nonsense but still pretty and fem.

I love it! It has a melodic sound and I can see it on all different ages, looks and personalities. I dislike Val, though.

I used to think it sounded terribly drab and dated. However I now see Valerie with fresh eyes. Recently when househunting I was looking round a house that had two little girls named Vivienne and Valerie, Suddenly I was like wow nice names. Sometimes I think you need to experience names in real life to gain a full perspective on them. Anyway now I really like Valerie (and Vivienne). I dislike dislike the nickname Val though currentlyValerie is fresh, pretty and has a bit of a I kick ass feel about it for me now :)

I think it sounds sweet and strong in one. Where I live it's not overused, it's not complex & pronounceable nearly everywhere. Because of that I love the name, although I'm not a huge fan of girls names ending with an -i sound. regrettably my husband (who's a fan of -i endings) doesn't like it at all... :(
