[Opinions] Cornelius
My middle name is Cornelius, and I've always hated it. It wasn't until quite recently that someone told me how MANLY the name is. She said that when speaking my name, I should use my best Leonidas "This is Sparta!" voice. Not only did that make me laugh, but for the first time I actually began to like my own name.

Oh, I think this is a cool name! Your friend has a point about the Sparta voice. It's long and bold and has a lot of different sounds. The "Cor" is pretty powerful. Not many names are brave enough to straight up end in -ius before.I was choosing between Mercer and Vanderbilt for my undergrad. Comparing the founder's names, Cornelius Vanderbilt and Jesse Mercer, made me realize that while I couldn't complain about Jesse Mercer, Cornelius Vanderbilt was just SO MUCH COOLER OF A FRIGGING NAME!!!!!!!!!!!! and went with it. Ok, that wasn't the sole factor, but I won't pretend it wasn't a part at all!Cornelia is also really cool.

It's nice that you've begun to enjoy your name some more. When you disliked it, at least it was only your middle name.I think Cornelius does sound a bit over-the-top and slightly comical, but it could be much worse!

I don't specifically like Cornelius, but don't dislike it either. I think it sounds strong and intelligent though. I had a pastor once named Cornelius [bunch of more Dutch middle names] he went by Case (Kees). I thought that was cool.

Ooh. Cornelius, nn Kees. Love it!

I like it only as a middle name. It seems too long and doesn't have a good nickname for a first name.

Great! It's a very dignified name. Perfect as a middle name. Much better than something like Joseph or *yawn* William.

This is the name of my grandma's brother, who passed away young (and by young, I meant he was in his 30s when he died). I had thought of using this name on a possible future son (with the nickname Corey), but have been more interested in using Abraham or Theodore.

That's cool. It's always great to hear when someone likes your name, especially if you weren't too keen on it to begin with. I'm glad you're starting to warm up to it! I'm not a big fan of Cornelius. It's the "corn" part that makes me grimace.

Yeah, that's why I like Cordelia but not Cornelia.

Cornelius is a family name for me. Some members use Conor as a nn for it. I'm biased, but I've always found it to be strong and handsome. Plus, it's retro. Win-win.Whoever that someone was has good taste! :-) (Oh, your parents as well.)

I've had a friend named Cornelius since childhood. He's now 31. To me, the name is a bit nerdy - like me friend. Certainly not uber-manly. Kind, gentle, and scholarly. Glad you like your middle name now!

I love the name Cornelius. I've met one Cornelius. He had people call him Co.

I adore Cornelius! It has the potential to be dorky and stately, a jarring dynamic that I love.
