Florence is an ok name I suppose, but Flossie is terrible. It sounds like some cartoon dental floss dispenser you would see at dentist office, like on posters, in coloring books or a short cartoon played in the lobby to make kids take care of their teeth.

Am I the only one...who can think only of the maid in "The Jeffersons" when I hear the name Florence? I guess so. Must be my age.

You're not the only one who thinks of the Jeffersons. :)

I love the name Florence. It's beautiful. I guess Flossie is kind of cute too. It's not my first go-to for a nickname, but it's nice.
I knew someone that went by Flossie on a different website. She was lovely. :) I bet she would love the idea of Florence equating to Flossie as a legit nickname.

I like Florence, but I dislike all its nns. Flossie is one of the worst, but they're all sufficiently bad to make me reject the name entirely. Pity, as it got a lot of use on both sides of my family - shortened to Flo and Florrie, mostly.

I think Florence is lovely, but don't like the nn Flossie at all. I prefer Florence for a mn too.

I like Florence. I know a little Florence, French speaking, not that she speaks yet, she's just a baby. Flossie-agree with Rox, it's too cow-y. My mother use to read "The Bobsey Twins" books;the children were two sets of twins, boy/girl each ones, the older, Bob and Nan (I think Bob), and the younger, Freddie and FlossieI use to think that 2 sets of twins in a family was pushing it, however, my daughter-in-law's mother has two sets of twins in her family. The mother is a twin, with a sister, and then twin brothers.

My SO's cousin has two sets of twins; however, she had seven pregnancies, and the first set of twins were the result of the first pregnancy, and the second set of twins were the result of the seventh pregnancy. They weren't born one right after the other. That would pretty much astonish me, unless it were the result of fertility treatments.

I don't like it. Florence is clunky and Flossie is silly.

:) So cute.
Also, Florence nn Ren.
Or Florence nn Renny.
Or Florence nn Renzi.
Or Florence nn Flori.

I adore Florence, but I do not particularly like Flossie. It sounds like a toy poodle name.

Florence is very pretty, slightly elderly and fussy, and very established. I really like it, but it's a name that I, personally, overuse, so I sometimes find myself getting bored of it. That's not a reflection of the name itself, just my predictable name choices. On the other hand, I really dislike Flossie. It's just not my style at all. I know two Florences, both under 30 - one goes by Flo and one just goes by her full name.

It's ok. I prefer Florrie to Flossie.

I think it's horribly old-fashioned and I would never want to be called Flossie in a million years. Sorry.

Florence is a pretty, dignified, gentle name. I picture an elderly lady who still wears a hat to church and has actual tea parties, but who also loves playing with her grandkids and working in her garden. I wouldn't use it as a first name, but I wouldn't rule out using it for a middle name.
Flossie sounds like a milk cow, or a slave. It just robs Florence of its dignity. Flo is sort of cute, in a noisy, wise-cracking waitress kind of way, but all in all I'd rather just see Florence with no nickname.
