I like it a lot. I know a 7-year-old Tristan. Tris is like Chris, seems as ok and natural.
The only "problem" is that Tristan rhymes Kristen and people have been using it for girls. However that would not stop me from using it if it were my favorite name. I do not think Tristan will become a mainly female name.
It's not a personal favorite because the consonants are too light for me to really love it enough to use it, but anyway thumbs up.
