Virginia's okay, though awfully old-ladyish and heavy. But I sure wouldn't want to be called Virgie. It sounds so Dust Bowl, like she ought to have sisters named Eula Mae and Minnie, and brothers named Omer and Ellwood. There's so many nicer nns for Virginia: Ginny, Jenny, Gina, even Gigi and Ginger if you're the right type.

I don't care for Virginia to begin with; I find it clunky. However, I don't think it's unusable. Some people here have brought up the fact that it contains the word "virgin" and have surmised that that could invite teasing. I've always disagreed, mainly because of the change in syllable emphasis between "virgin" and Virginia. But Virgie takes away that change in syllable emphasis and is much too close to "virgin".Bad idea. Stick to Ginny or the full name.

I think it works just fine, though it's not my favorite nn for Virginia (which I love, btw). I went to school with a Virgie, but it wasn't short for Virginia like I'd always assumed. I thought it was a cute nn.

My sister's name is Virginia. I used to call her Virgie sometimes as a joke.I've said it often enough now that I'm fond of it, but I started using it was because I thought it sounded comically antiquated.

Yes, I see it as a shortened version of Virginia though I would spell it Virgi but that's up to you

I strongly dislike this name. It is very close to the word "virgin" and generally sounds icky and doesn't have a nice sound to it. Virgie as a nickname sounds like a cruel joke to me.
