I have a friend named Desiree. It suits her. I wouldn't use it, personally.

I sort of like it and sort of don't like it. My feelings toward Desiree are pretty weird. On the one hand, I think it's a really pretty name. On the other hand, part of my brain thinks it gives off an overly sensual vibe that is weird, like I could picture the name on an adult but not on a kid if that makes sense.

The whole desire thing makes me feel kind of icky about the name. But maybe I'm being puritanical.

My school friend (see below) was her parents' first and very much wanted child, hence the name Desiree. The fact that her mother became psychologically abusive towards her (and her sister; not their brother though) is neither here nor there.

Same here! The desire thing seems so obvious to me as something that’s going to make people think of sex.
It doesn’t help that every Desiree I’ve ever known (about five or six) had... um... very loose standards. My cousin Desiree has had four husbands, and she cheated on each of them with the next one. She’s 32.

I REALLY hate it. It's very dated, but not in the cute old lady kind of way. It's recently gone out of style, so it just feels stale.

I've got a wonderful Desiree friend - we've been buddies since our first week at school - but she finds it a bit too much for everyday use and is known as Des. Except, sometimes, by me. Before she even started school, someone who wasn't familiar with the name said what she thought she heard, which was Daisy-Ray, and when I heard that story I started calling her Daisy sometimes. I like Daisy better, in fact: less emotionally intense. If I'd had enough daughters, I'd have honoured her by using Daisy for one of them, but not Desiree.

I really like it, too. Sounds very exotic and romantic, but might be better suited as a middle name.

Desiree is a cool name - before it's pretty (or even beautiful), or sophisticated, or any other positive adjective, Desiree is a cool name. I can't imagine a Desiree who isn't "with it," whatever "it" may be in time and space.
There was an older sister of one of my friends in primary school whose name was Desiree, and she went by "Dezi." I think she solidified the "cool" impression for me.

This is a name that I am VERY familiar with since I have a cousin named it (From a direct aunt, both of whom I grew up with) So needless to say, I immediately associated the name with her. I think it's a pretty nice name, has an attractive and beautiful, almost 'exotic' vibe to it. I like that it's a bit different from the usual you hear but isn't strange or outlandish.
