[Opinions] Margherita
I found out that my great grandmother’s first name was Margherita (no middle name). I was happily surprised to find such a gem :) Now I’m curious about your opinions. What do you think of the name Margherita? What are potential nicknames? Margie, Rita, ..?

Of course think of the pizza, but I know the pizza was named after a queen so...I like it of course, its just tied too closely with a food item for meAlso it almost sounds like an alternate evolution of chikorita lol

This is the name of my......incredibly nosey neighbour. She is an older South African lady who has litterlly grdened my garden without permission when I've been at work, and who has knocked on my door to tell me that I should re-park my car in my carparking space because it wasn't straight. This is my impression of a Margherita. I'm not a fan of it as a name as I don't like the potential nicknames.

I'm surprised at this spelling on a South African. I'd expect Margareta, Margaretha or Margarethe.

I've never seen it written so i'm not sure of the spelling

That’s a stark contrast of what I’ve been told about my great grandmother. A quiet, sweet woman. Your neighbor sounds like a terrible nitpicker! I’d have a bad association with the name as well.0

Margherita is gorgeous, but my first association was the pizza. And for the spelling Margarita, I think of the drink!I love the Polish nickname Gosia (for Małgorzata but I would use it for every Margaret name). Rita is pretty.
Maybe Gita? Mar? Mara? Maggie?

Margarita Carmen Cansino = Rita Hayworth : )

I love it! I think the spelling Margarita is better because it's universally understood. Rita is great for a nickname.

It's very Pizza Margherita. Which is one of my favorite pizzas, but still... I do like Rita on its own and would still consider that to be honoring.

I prefer Marguerite, I think it would be ok as a mn

It's such a pretty name, it seems a shame to knock it down to any of the usual Margaret (or any unexpected) nicknames. But it's so long it seems inevitable.I do prefer the spelling Margarita.
