It's a little cringey to me. It sounds exactly like
Rain so it seems like a respelling of
Rain by people who would spell
Ashley as
Ashleigh and maybe don't understand that
Reign is a verb and it's not about nobility per se but about domination ... for a limited time?? It's bizarrely not namey and the only thing that makes it namey is that it sounds like surname Rayne, which sounds like the word
Rain ... and those aren't even namey imo, they're just trendy as names ... It's kind of like using Cruise as a name. If I'm being a jerk I want to say, "dude ... it's
Cruz. Means cross. Did you know."
ETA maybe it refers to the "reign" of some spiritual force or god?? Maybe I just don't get it?
Anyway I'm not totally unable to suppress my cringe. It's a name now. Rayne,
Rain,
Raine,
Reign, whatever.
It's not as good as
Roman,
Royal, and
King; not as bad as Saint, Tru,
Cohen, Creed,
Crew,
Knox,
Blaze
