The meaning does not bother me in the least, however the association to the comic character or the Protestant reformer do.

It makes me think of John Calvin and Calvin Klein underwear adverts, and since I'm neither a Christian nor a fan of men's underwear, those aren't overwhelmingly positive associations for me. The meaning is unfortunate too.
