[Opinions] Soraya and Psoriasis
So the name Soraya is growing on me. I think it’s beautiful, and the meaning is lovely as well. Is it too close to psoriasis? What’s funny is that I didn’t even notice it until one mentioned it. I don’t think it’s cause teasing potential or anything, but what do you think of it? Would you find another pronounciation better?_______________________________________________________

For a second I worried the title referred to name sitings! The spellings are nothing alike, and they don't sound that similar in my accent, suh-RIE-uh-sis versus so-RAY-ah. I guess it sounds closer in Spanish or Arabic, but I think it's still a stretch. I might as well say it's too close to Sarah or Syria, which I don't think it is.

Kind of but I think it would still be ok.

I don’t see it personally.

People of an age to tease other people about their names are probably not old enough to be familiar with psoriasis. The meaning, Pleiades, is lovely but the culturally more familiar meaning - Iranian royalty - is unattractive even if the last Shah's wife was not.

I do immediately think psoriasis with Soraya pronounced as Suh-RYE-uh, but I do really like it as Suh-RAY-uh. It has a much more appealing sound in general imo, and avoids the psoriasis connection.

It's why I prefer Suraya.

I'd notice it. If I loved a name though, I could overlook it.

I don't think it's an issue
