I love Giles, but Gilles doesn't do it for me. Also it may be my serial killer obsession, but it makes me think of Gilles de Rais.

I like Gilles and Jean - I'd only consider using them in a French-speaking environment, though! Huon, not so much. I can appreciate Hugues, and in English I like Hugo and Hugh, but Huon looks either random or, possibly, Chinese.In English, I also like Giles, mn only, and John, which is a family name; probably it's a family name in just about every English-speaking family on the planet but it's still good.
