Hello, middle school! A new chapter of your life, officially. Dawn's now in high school, so she's your new idol. Sweet Sixteen time! You turn sixteen, and your parents throw a sweet sixteen birthday party to get your mind off of Wendell for a second because it's been making you miserable. About a month later, Wendell dies in the hospital. You're heartbroken. Your mother won't stop crying. You lay flowers at the foot of his grave, and you feel miserable. He was more than your brother; he was your best friend, and you won't forget that. A week later, you go to his grave on a windy, grey day and eat his favorite food: spaghetti and meatballs. Dawn and George want to move out. You have a big fight with Dawn because you need them with you. George decides to stay. Dawn does not.

You and Adam sneak out because Adam wanted to. You guys tour the city around in the dark, and you instantly feel better. That's when Adam does something he's never done before; he kisses you. You feel so dazed...you don't get caught, but you feel like you don't belong in reality anymore. You tell George everything when he finds you staring into space, just...staring. George sympathizes with you, saying he did the same thing once, but he got caught. Then you two started cracking up.
