[Opinions] Re: Lib or Liv?
in reply to a message by )(
Liv, because it sounds more like a name. Well, it IS a name.I've never heard of anyone being named "Lib." (I'm in the US) When I hear "lib" I think of "women's lib" (liberation), which became a somewhat dismissive term before it was obsolete, and of "lib" used to mean "(person of) liberal (political leanings)" which is also generally a dismissive or even pejorative usage. So as a name it would seem pretty weird/bad to me.Libby, though, is a familiar nickname for Elizabeth or Liberty, and seems very usable to me - at least as good as Liv. I also like Libby more than I like Livvy, and the slight sound-association between Libby and "lib(eral") does not seem negative to me the way it does with just "Lib." I think Elizabeth would be nicknamed Liz rather than Lib.- mirfak
