Yeah, I’m just going to copy and paste this from when we discussed this name less than two weeks ago.Very dated.
I will also point out as usual that Indigenous names hold great weight and meaning for the tribes that carry them, as attempting to strip the First Nations peoples of their cultural identity was kind of a big thing settlers did. Yes, even the names given to them by others, though they might have called themselves something else. Such a name proves you existed, that you were a community, and that others thought about you.
And before someone inevitably points out that I’m white and thinks I’m on some white-guilt crusade (it happens every time, especially with certain long-time btn posters), I was with my ex-husband, an Indigenous man, for 17 years. I spent a lot of time with his family and I saw first-hand how frustrated, angry and hurt they were by things like this. When you’ve sat in a room with old women who can’t speak their own language because they were literally beaten at school if they tried, then see the very type of people who beat them use those words for funsies because they sound cool, it’s heartbreaking.
Just don’t.

Either. But more of a Dakota on a boy and Dakota Grace on a girl. But the cultural appropriation thing bothers me much now.

Boy. I don’t even know why.Just like how I prefer Indiana on a girl because it’s more fem to me, I prefer Dakota because it strikes me as a but more masculine. But it’s not awful on the opposite gender and makes a decent unisex name, though not my favorite.

I don’t care much for this name, but it’s okay for a girl.

Boy? It’s a horrible name.

Neither

Dakota is alright on a girl, not my style, but it’s fine.Dakota is stupid for a boy though. It sounds like a nickname, or like a weird trendy hippie name like Onyx or Talon.

Boy
On a gal it seems more trendy like Delaney or Makenna. On a guy it's more of a "country" vibe, like Tanner or Kash or Dallas.
Neither is my style, but I think the latter has more character.

I love it for both, but I slightly prefer it on a girl.

Neither, I think it’s cringeworthy.

Much prefer it for a boy, along with other similar names and variants, such as: Kota and Koda

Girl, but strongly dislike both.
