I’m not a fan. To me, it sounds clunky. (Anything with the ilda, elga, etc. type of sound sounds clunky to me). I know it’s rising in popularity, so clearly some disagree but to me it sounds old. Ironically, my husband can’t imagine the name on an adult, so strong and varied opinions can exist within the same household.

I have no idea why it's not more popular. Maybe it sounds too clunky to some people? It doesn't roll off the tongue the way Isabella does, for example.Anyway, I like it. I think Mattie, Tillie/Tilly, and Tilda are fun nicknames. I think it sounds smart. IDK, it's just an all around positive name for me.

Best dog I ever had was named Matilda when we got her from the rescue centre. I knew a human Matilda who went, attractively, by Tilda (though it is close to being a diacritic ...) and a French Mathilde who was always called Mattie. Musical issues, perhaps? Waltzing Matilda? And there was a calypso song, MAH til DAH, MAH til DAH, MAH til DAH, she took me money and run Venezuela. I could have got the words wrong, but not very wrong!

I love it (also Tilda) and have no idea, but it’s ranked 28 in my country so very popular here…
