I like the name Jonas but I don't think Jess makes any sense as a nickname - Jay, J, Jo, Joe and maybe even Jon make more sense.

Jon could probably be pronounced as JON (going by the actual pronunciation key, basically jone) to better fit, but it’s entirely possible for that to be a bit of a stretch.

It's alright, but I prefer Jonah, and see Jonas more as a surname. I can't see Jess working, but Jo/Joe & Joey certainly could.

I read a book once, and the main protagonist was named Jonas. I’ve enjoyed the name Jonas ever since my first real exposure to it, through that book, so I can say I like the name Jonas (and it’s definitely good for a boy).

As for the nickname, I’m not sure. It could, if you really wanted it to, but I don’t personally see it happening.
