I find this name to be very pretty. Not pronounce "eye-zul" but "ee-zel". Alternatively, Isel. WDYT?

For those who hear "easel", what do you think of Giselle, like "Gizel" but I don't like that spelling, which has a similar sound to Izel?

Giselle doesn't sound like "easel" to me because of the G + the "ih" sound rather than "ee". I adore the name Giselle!

The I in Giselle is a schwa in my accent, so Azel or Azelle would seem more similar, but if I were going to say Giselle in an affected French accent, the consonant would make it distinct from easel. It's like when I say weasel, I don't think of easels, but if someone said wee-ZEL, I'd probably associate weasels. (I don't mind that Izel / Yzel reminds me of easels, though. Izel's obviously a name, and I have nothing against easels.)

It's ok. It reminds me of Inés and Mozelle, both of which sound about 100 years old to me (not too bad, they have grit) - Inés in a more hip way than Mozelle, but I personally prefer Mozelle. Izel seems more sleek than those in a way I guess could be appealing but mostly seems slippery to me.

I like it. It feels magical. It reminds me of Izan - the (European) Spanish version of Ethan, using Spanish spelling to get to the English pronunciation. I find that one pretty cool too.

I like Yzel too. Isel is ok... But I feel like I'd be much more tempted to say it like "ICE-ell" with that spelling.

I'd prefer the "eye-zul" pronunciation. "ee-zel" makes me think easel.

That doesn't change a whole lot though. Just sounds like you're saying easel with weird enunciation.

You could say the same of Annette and 'a net'. The enunciation is different, but the vowel pronunciation is the same unless you're saying it properly, like Izel and easel.
With that logic, Isabel sounds pretty much like 'is a bull', but no one thinks that.

I love it! Now it may not be to everyone's taste, I love the simple but hypnotic sound, the literally unique meaning, and the Nahuatl origins (which is btw used by both Nahuas and Mexicas (Aztecs)). Such a gem!
