I dislike the sound and look. Muriel is only a tad better in both aspects.

I like it. Ghostly, ocean vibes with a hint of a magical forest that either leads to death or a disney happy ending.

I think that it's pretty, but being a South Carolina native, I mainly think of Myrtle Beach!

Excellent for a pet turtle. Otherwise, not.

Super cute and satisfying to say. Love it.

That’s so interesting to me because I find it really unsatisfying to say, haha.

Don't like it at all, very old fashioned

I like it. I admit I wouldn't use it for a child, it's like Eunice, Ethel, Mildred. Names that can't fully shake their ugly frumpiness. Used here and there, but never truly coming back But for a cat? Totally. It helps that I know a Myrtle and she's a wonderful person.

Ugly.

An unpleasant, gurgling sound. It's the awkward "tl", like in Caitlin or Svetlana. But in those names, it's at least followed by a vowel which smooths it out, whereas Myrtle ends abruptly. I like the colour a lot, though. And the associations aren't unpleasant - it feels like Laura. I can see Laura and Myrtle as sisters.

No, it's a beach.

I don't know why everyone hates it, I think it's lovely. It's sort of "cloudy," if you know what I mean, which makes it all the prettier to me. And like Wordsmith said, it has great significance.

I love it! The ancient significance of myrtle makes the name quite evocative for me.

This is one of those old-lady names that is probably going to get some new use, especially celebrities and people deliberately trying to be outliers.
I think the sound of it is ugly, like sneaky, snickering laughter.
