The other day while at the ice cream shop, a pair of grandparents with their little granddaughter were ahead of me in line. She was maybe about 5 years old. Her name was Veda (not sure of spelling, but the pronunciation was "VAY-dah", they said it several times.) I thought it was really interesting and unique, very unexpected. I liked it a lot hearing it in real life, although normally I think a name like Veda wouldn't hold my interest.

Pronounced that way, I really like Veda. However, reading the name, my instinct is to pronounce it VEE-duh; that's why I'd likely opt for the My Girl spelling, Vada. instead.

I LOVE this name. Heard it for the first time in My Girl like many others but it's been a favorite ever since. Since half my familyh pronounces the "V" as "F" (eff) it's staying on the middle name list at most lol

The film My Girl starring Anna Chlumsky as Vada Sultenfuss. I do know another little girl called Vada after the character in the film. The name definitely stands out but I’m not a fan.

I've liked Veda for a long time. I remember reading the Hindu texts or Vedas in my comparative religion class and like a name nerd I thought "wouldn't Veda be a cool name for a girl?"
I'm also happy to hear that the parents are pronouncing it correctly. Some people say "VEE" instead of "VAY" and it drives me crazy.

Well, Darth Veda would make it a lnfn, but if one can overlook him, it sounds very nice.

LOL, I guess Veda does sound just like Vader in certain accents! Maybe her parents are Star Wars fans but wanted a name that wasn't quite as obvious as Leia (or maybe they follow the Dark Side).
