[Opinions] Re: This or that
Olivia vs Emilia: Olivia is better than Olive, and Emily is better than Emilia
Stella vs Estella: Stella. Estella is needlessly complicated
Emma vs Emily: Emily. Emma sounds hesitant.
Eliana vs Juliana: Juliana, though I don’t like it much. I like Eliana much less
Julia vs Elena: Julia. It has no pronunciation issues
Clara vs Chiara: Neither. Clare is better than both
Sylvia vs Lydia: Sylvia is both elegant and outdoorsy. I dislike geographical names.
Lara vs Zara: One is as bad as the other
Juliet vs Violet: Juliet is the only Juli- name I like, and then only as a mn. Violet hovers between sentimental scented flowers and, almost, Violent and Viola/Violin
Ruby vs Ivy: Dislike jewel names and plant names: I is not the best start for a name, so Ruby scores
Eden vs Evangeline: Neither. Eden is silly and Evangeline is far too long. Eva or Eve would be better. Plus, my mother had a school friend named Evangeline and called Vangie
Lucy or Eleanor: Both are lovely; I always wanted to name a daughter Lucy
Noemi vs Naomi: Naomi. Noemi would spend her life teaching spelling and pronunciation to one and all
Christina vs Vanessa: Vanessa is dainty and cheerful; I’m not a Christian so Christina would not be suitable
Isla vs Lyra: Neither, but Lyra has fewer pronunciation issues and the Philip Pullman books are good
Dante vs Andre: Andre is widely used where I live, and better than Andrew; Dante is over-ambitious
Nathaniel vs Benjamin: Benjamin, nn Ben, or Nathaniel, nn Nathan. Neither on its own
Xavier vs Leo: Having heard too many Eks-Ayvias, it’s got to be Leo
Julian vs Lucian: Julian; Lucian would shorten to Lucy or lengthen to Lucy-Anne
Orlando vs Alonso: Orlando; Alonso looks unfinished
Adrian vs Sebastian: Adrian all the way! Where I live, Sebastian is very down-market
Isaac vs Jonas: Isaac starts with I, which I think is a bad beginning. Jonas shortens convincingly to Joe: I’d rather use it and take the risk of it shortening to Jon Arse
Silas vs Titus: Neither. Starting with a Sigh is as bad as starting off Tight
Carlos vs Emilio: Carlos shortens to Carl, which is fine. Where I live, Spanish names aren’t used, so people would instinctively hear Emilia
Elijah vs Isaiah: Not a fan of biblical names: if one must, then Elijah
Ethan vs Noah: Ethan. At least it doesn’t start with No
