[Opinions] somersault...
I randomly just found out that Sia, the Australian singer, had a baby girl back in 2024. The baby's full name is Somersault Wonder Bernad. I had to double check that it was the real name, but it seems it is. Any thoughts ig?

It's terrible.
I'm tired of this trend of celebrities choosing random words as names, trying to be different.
This poor kid is probably going to spend her life performing tricks for attention.
Kind of like a one-trick Pony.

I'm realizing the trend is to give your kid an outright stage name. It's not intended to be a real name. It's a stage name, it's not for normals. Parents in the entertainment industry are skipping the step where the kid chooses to be in the entertainment industry and gets to pick their own stage name: "My kid is an entertainer right out of the gate, bring on the endorsements." Also, they are probably choosing names that are not already taken in the Stage Actors Guild and other entertainment unions / groups.

That's a very good point. Choosing a not-already-taken name with the unions is a real pain! My name was taken and I had to make a stage name :(
But I still don't really like Somersault LOL.

That's a really good insight, I never thought about it that way before.
I heard about Somersault Wonder Bernard a while back. It's definitely not a name I'd consider.
Sia has two sons as well.

A girl I grew up and went to school with was a competitor on a reality TV show ten years ago and Sia became a big fan of hers and they had some lovely interactions.
Anyway, the name is dreadful.

You knew Maddie Ziegler?!?
No no no, no one nearly so famous. This was literally just someone Sia watched on a TV show and reached out to. Sia and my friend never worked together.
An interesting choice for a 48 year old mother to go with....
Somer is pretty at least. I suppose she won't have to worry anyway, she's not going to have a typical upbringing.

Brutal. Definitely the type of 'name' a mom uses to point to herself and gloat "look how unique I am!".
Am I the only one who misread it as Somersault Wonder Bread at first glance?

The sins of the mother ...
It's an unconventional choice, but I wouldn't call the name sinful.
Nor would I. The sin, or grave error, lies in the choice of Somersault Wonder as names for an ordinary, innocent human who will be reminded of its sheer oddness every day of her life, or until she is old enough to change her name to, perhaps, Jane.
I think Summer is a good nickname! Maybe she could legally change her name later.
And yes, it's sad that she has to live with that name.

A terrible name, but at least she can go by Summer?
It sounds somewhat namey but also creepily reminds me Sia is a Dance Moms fan.

That's just dumb, like someone with a very low intelligence who just picks random words and thinks they make good names. And then probably says dumb stuff to justify it: "Oh, she was always somersaulting around in my stomach ..." Like all babies don't do that.
