[Opinions] Cinda/Cindy (edited)
I've gotta ask--am I the only person who still likes the nickname Cindy? I think of the folk song "Get Along Home, Cindy, Cindy," and, well, I love folk songs. Lately, I've found both Cynthia nn Cindy/Cinda and Lucinda nn Cindy/Cinda very sweet. (I'm a bit more partial to Lucinda, but it does conflict with my love of Emmylou, lol--not only do they both contain the "lu" sound, it'd seem horribly themey.) WDYT of Cynthia, Lucinda, Cinda, and Cindy? Could Cinda stand alone, or do you think it's too nicknamey? Any combos strike you as apt? :)Array (liking the sound of Cinda Rae, hehehe)ETA: One last (unrelated) question. Stellamaris, Stella-Maris, Stella Maris. Too much? I listen to the Anonymous Four sing "O Maria stella maris" and I can't resist the name, heh.

I like the nn Cindy, I just don't like Cynthia. Lucinda is all right. Not something I'd use, but I like for someone else's child. I think Cinda could stand alone. I really like Cinda Rae. =)

I still like Cindy, although because of my age I went to school with an awful lot of them. So to me it seems ultra-common. Now, though, a Cindy would stand out, I suppose.
Knew a Cinda once, which I thought was very nice.
Just to throw this in, I also once knew a Cynthia who went by Cynthy. I thought it was a little cutesy, but maybe that's just me.

In theory, I like the idea of Cynthie, but in practice, I find it difficult in the extreme to say, hehe. Thanks for the comments! :DArray

I've always liked the name Cindy, but I prefer it as a full name. Why couldn't you use it as a full name, people do that too. If you really want a longer name though, then I'd go with Lucinda, nn Cindy. I don't like Cinda though, sorry. Stella Maris is alright.

I actually like the name Cindy. Cinda and Cindy are fine on their own. Lucinda and Cynthia are nice as well.

Ok, yes I know I'm weird, but I like Cinder. ;o) And a friend in college was nned (by me & another friend) Cyndal, which I really like as well and would use as a name. ;o) I love folk songs, too (you need to learn The Cruel War Is Raging, if you don't already know it) and I think of the same song. I do like Cindy / Cinda better than Cynthia (how does the hard d sound in Cindy come from the th sound in Cynthia, anyway, lol) and I prefer the nn Lucy for Lucinda. Cinda Myrtle
Cinda Lune (just came to mind, and I like the way it sounds)
Cinda LaurelCindal (you don't like y's in names, right?) Betsy
Cindal Song
Cindal Bea (or Beatrice, but I like just Bea)
Cindal Rae
Cindal Aura / Ora

I adore Lucinda and like the idea of someone acutally using Cindy as a nickname for it instead of Lucy. Although I might be more inclined to spell it Cyndi a la Lauper ; )Cinda is cute though, not sure how well it would work as a full name though. I used to love Cinder as a name though, haha.Cynthia is nice, but not particularly my style. And it seems like every Cynthia I've ever met has gone by Cindy instead. I find Cynthia without a nickname nicer though.Other possiblities for Cinda / Cindy as a nickname:
Cindra
Jacinda
Dulcina
Cinara
Hyacinth
Marcinda
Edited to add that I really like Cinda, and Cinda Rae is cute : )

I'm tickled pink to see that Cyndi is in the database! :D I've always liked the way Ms. Lauper spelled it.Cindra~ Despite the fact that it's hard to get out of my mouth and my overwhelming desire to spell it Sindra (why, I ask--though Sinda would be as pretty as Cinda, certainly), I am liking this one a lot.
Jacinda~ I'm never sure how I feel about this one, but in theory, it's nice. :)
Dulcina~ Oooh, a good idea! I like it.
Cinara~ What can you tell me about this one? I find it very nice looking.
Hyacinth~ Oooh, hadn't thought of this one. My favourite nickname for this is actually Yaz, but Hyacinth nn Cinda would be really cool for a character. I'm not positive I could do it in real life, hehe.
Marcinda~ Never heard this before, but I do love me some Marc- names. :)Thanks! :DDDArray

Well according to Yeahbaby.com where I did search for names containing "Cin" Cinara is Portuguese, but doesn't have a meaning listed. And Marcina is listed as "American" and meaning "with great stride". Haha, I doubt either one is accurate but who knows?
While searching about a bit of Cinara I came across mention of it in the Odes of Horace: http://ancienthistory.about.com/library/bl/bl_text_horace_odes4.htm

Cinda Rae is cute. I love cinda as a nn for Jacinda or Lucinda.
Btw,one of the outside influences on my life was name Cindra. her full name was Cindra Mae. She's the 1st person I thought of when I see the combo,so you see why I like it.Check Out Blinkyou.com for thousands of custom glitters and layouts

Cindra? That's an interesting one! I rather like it. :) The only problem is that it's kind of hard for me to say quickly (and I don't speak any way but quickly, hehe), but I really like how it looks and sounds. I'll definitely have to think about Cindra, too, then. I have this strange desire to spell it out Sindra, but I haven't the faintest idea why. ^^;;Thanks. :)Array

Sorry, I was trying to be quick (was supposed to be doing something else.... but getting addicted). I like the name Cynthia best out of your choices because it's pretty and sort of older... but in a good way.

Oh, it's all right. :D I was just a tad confused, hehe (that happens to me a lot). Thanks for your comments! Cynthia really has been growing on me lately.Array

I'm not a fan of Cindy, but I do love Cynthia, Lucinda, and Cinda. My favorite is Lucinda nn Cinda, though I do definetly think that Cinda can stand on it's own.Cinda Rae is quite nice...However, what about:Lucinda Rosemary "Cinda"
Cinda Evening
Lucinda Veronique "Cinda"
Cindy Allegra
Lucinda Willow "Cinda"
Cinda Georgine
Cinda Lucienne
Lucinda Persephone "Cinda"
Cinda Opal
Lucinda True "Cinda"Anything?

Lucinda Rosemary "Cinda"~ I like this.
Cinda Evening~ But I look at this and say, "No, it'd have to be Evening Lucinda." Ooooh, whaddya think, whaddya think? :D Evening Lucinda feels a bit more down-to-earth than Evening Lucasta (which is a bit too grandiose for me, much as I love Lucasta in theory). Evening Veronica or Evening Lucinda, either makes me happy. :)
Lucinda Veronique~ I like Veronique, but not nearly so well as I like Veronica. :)
Cindy Allegra~ Allegra's one I prefer for other people, I think, but this is a snappy combo.
Lucinda Willow "Cinda"~ Willow's the same way. But I think this is gorgeous, if quite reminiscent of Lucinda Williams (a good thing, I swear). ;)Must think on the others--haven't got a strong opinion on them right now. :) Thanks, lulu!Array

Oh dear me, yes! Evening Lucinda is *gorgeous*. I am refraining from stealing it myself, and stuffing it in my profile... lol.I'm really glad I could help!
vote up1
We can share it, if you like. :D After all, I've still got Evening Veronica at the top of the list of Evey names...and you might not be so V for Vendetta obsessed that you'd have to spell her nickname Evey, lol. As long as we're not in the same state, I'm okay with it. ;) They could, like, meet at college and be all, "Ohmigosh, we have the same bizarre name! Let's be friends!" It'd be very cool. ;DArray

LMHO!Oh my gracious, that last comment was awesome... I laughed pretty hard, for just staring at a computer screen! I think for now I'll just steal Evening, but I may stick Lucinda in as the mn later.

To be honest, I'd probably like it (especially as a nn for Lucinda ;) if it wasn't for the fact that I was "friends" with this really horrible girl named Cynthia "Cindy" for about five years and that "friendship" left me with lasting self confidence problems. :P If you were going to use it I'd much prefer the full name be Lucinda because Cynthia, despite the association, reminds me of the word "synthetic".--

Cynthia is ok
Lucinda is quite awesome! Lol. Cinda is a real good nn for it! I have two mates named Lucinda, one goes by Louy, the other Cinda. And then also it's my step-mum's name and she goes by Lucinda.
Cinda is sort of nicknamey but it's really cute :P so I think it could stand alone :-).ETA: Cinda Rae is cute! :P Hehe
