[Facts] What the name Jayla means?
What do you think the name Jayla would mean? Came up with this name while I was in High School a long time ago, in the 80's. She is the only one around with the name Jayla. Could you help?

We found it in a very old book about 20 yrs. ago. It said "Jayla" means divine suprise.

Well my name is Jaala and my parents got it from the Bible. It's in Nehemiah 7:58 and Ezra 2:56. The way mine is spelled it is Hebrew and it means "Divine Suprise" along with "she-goat"...haha It's actually just a list of a decendent of the servants of Solomon in the Babylonian Captivity. Hope this helps. Email me if you'd like more.

I had a friend in high school with the name Jaela (pronounced Jayla)
Her name came from the anglicized Jael from Yael in the Old Testament. Her parents just added the A to make it more pleasant since they kept the J sound.

In the greater Boston-Providence area, a "jayla" is the person who carries the keys in the local lockup.

More often than not, parents give names to their children based more on the pleasantness of the sound, than on the actual meaning of the name. And many new names are "invented" because of this. Your friend in high school may have been given the name "Jayla" simply because her parents liked the sound of those combined syllables -- I couldn't find any meaning for that name in any of my sourcebooks (perhaps someone else here might find it).I would guess that "Jayla" may be a combination of a couple of different names, such as "Jane" and "Kayla". Many new, and lovely (at least for female children), names are coined by parents experimenting and making interesting combinations of existing names.-- Nanaea

MY ELEVEN MONTH OLD DAUGHTER WAS NAMED JAYLA AFTER COMBINING HER
FATHER AND MY NAMES WHICH ARE JASON AND ANGELA
" JA Y LA " AND THAT IS THE SPECIAL SIGNIFICANCE IT HAS TO ME.
HER FATHER DID NOT LIKE THE NAME BUT WE HAD AN AGREEMENT THAT IF OUR BABY WAS A GIRL I WOULD GET NO NAME HER AND VICE-VERSA. NOW AFTER SEEING AND KNOWING HER WE HAVE FOUND HER NAME FITS HER PERFECTLY.
