[Opinions] Danaë
I am currently loving the name Danaë for a girl. I did some research (both on the Fact Boards archive and Greek mythology sites), an am 99% sure that DAN-ay-ee is the right pronunciation. What do you think of these combinations?Danaë Chiara (kee-ahr-a)
Danaë Brenna
Danaë Madoline (mad-uh-lyne)I really don't think any of these are perfect, so all suggestions welcome!!TIA,

I have seen it before, but it was always pronounced dah-NAY. And I never realized it was a 'real' name. I just assumed it was made-up, like a feminized version of Dan, and along the same lines as Janay/Janae. Ugh. Unfortunately, I like it would be misspelled (the "ë" being overlooked) and more than likely mispronounced, esp. since no one here can agree on how it should be pronounced. LOL :)

Well, Pavlos says the native Greek pronunciation of Danaë is than-A-ee, while Christo says da-NAH-ee. Chrisell said da-NAY-ee, and Kandake said (with Encyclopedia Mythica to back her up) DAN-ay-ee.I like da-NAH-ee best, but da-NAY-ee is nice too.As for your combos: I like Danaë Madoline best, though I much prefer the Madeline spelling. Next I like Danaë Brenna, and last I like Danaë Chiara. But all of your combos are beautiful, so it's just a matter of degrees of liking each combo.Miranda

I think the prononciation is da-na-eh, but I'm not sure. I don't think "a" could give "ay" in Greek. I'm not sure "e" would be "ee" either, but this one is more possible imo.Anyway, I love Danae Chiara (altough Chiara is nms) and I like Danae Brenna. I don't really like Madoline with a "o", it always seems misspellt to me. And I'm not too fond of Danae Madeline.Claire

I love Danae too! But I've always pronounced it Dan-ay. Your way is cute too. Danae Brenna is lovely!

I know someone named Danae, and she pronounces it da-NAY (rhymes with Renee). I really like the name! Out of your combinations, I like Danae Chiara the best.

Only person I ever knew with the name pronounced it 'da-NA-ey'. I'd go with that, considering that she was Greek herself...With a name with three syllables, it's not a good idea to put a name with too many syllables next to it. I'd go with Danae Layla, 'cause Layla is the shortest. Still, it'd be better to have a one-syllable name as a mn.

That prononciation seems the best to me. :)
