Mariah
Is it too Mariah Carey ? I don't really like the singer even though some of her songs are nice but I wouldn't want people to think I named my daughter after Mariah Carey. I do think it's a very pretty name. So WDYT ? Do you know any girls named Mariah (except for the singer) ? Do people assume they were named after the singer/do they have any problems with their name ?

The only Mariah's that I have met were all born after Mariah Carey became famous. I would definitely assume any Mariah's born now were named for the singer. I have heard the name Maria pronounced like Mariah, though, if that counts as an alternative. I think both are classic and beautiful names.

I also love the name Mariah and find the sound of it beautiful. I do instantly think of Mariah Carey and while I love her voice and most of her songs, I wouldn't want people to think I had named my DD after her either! I think most people will think of Ms. Carey, but I don't believe people will just assume the child is named after her, not anymore anyway. I don't know anyone with the name.

I love Mariah. I doesn't remind me of the singer, but then I'm a history person. It makes me think of Jane Austen's Mansfield Park. Though Austen spells it Maria... in the movie they pronounce it "Mariah". Funny how those two names are only one letter different and an 'h' at that.

I would definitely assume that the girl was named after the singer. It's not a bad name, it's just not usable now.

Nah, I think it's very usable. It doesn't make me think of the singer.

I love Mariah, but my dh won't agree to it b/c of Mariah Carey.I did work at a school with three girls named Mariah, they would all be between 10 and 13 now.It is s name in the top 100 so with that popularity it might lose it's association with Mariah Carey for people.

I like Mariah. I have a friend with this name, and though she does get a few Mariah Carey jokes now and again, I don't think anyone really connects her with the singer at all. i am fairly certain she was not named after Mariah Carey, but i could be wrong.
