I don't like either, unfortunately.
My brother in law however, is going out with a really lovely girl called Kylie so, even though I think it is far too ocker and 80's sounding, I really like the girl, so I'd choose Kylie over Kyra. Kyra to me at least, sounds like the kind of noise a Harpy would make when it was attacking someone.

Kylie is my sister's name. I don't find it tacky, but a lot of others automatically think she was called that because of Kylie Minogue (even though she is 24). Out of all our names, hers is definitely the one that sounds most dated, and my mother slightly regrets using it because of this.I like Kyra, both in looks and pronunciation (KIE-ra), but think it could go down the same route as Kylie.

Kylie is a Koori word. How is it tacky?

Outside of Australia, most people only know the name Kylie because of Kylie Minouge. Much as I like her, I think that's what gives the name a tacky feel. It's the same with other names only associated with popstars.

According to this website, which is generally quite reliable, it's more likely to be a female form of Kyle.
And anyway, it has the oh-so-trendy K initial, "y" and nicknamey ending which all make it look tacky to me. I don't see how a name can't be considered tacky just because it's a word in a language. Caprice is a French word but I find it rather tacky as a name.
