Thora?
I was wondering what you thought of the name Thora? I really quite like it. I also like the meaning "Thunder goddess". Thanks in advance!

I love Thora in German. It's very beautiful. It's okay in English, but I think the "th" sounds quite forced.

I knew a ThoraShe was a little girl, of pure Icelandic-Canadian background. She died when she was only three years old of a rare genetic condition that her sister, Alida, has also inherited. I think of it a brave, innocent but tragic name as a result :( Poor little Thora.

Sad situation, but lovely names.

I don't like it, but I know a Tora..or, I know her sister Ragna. They have another sister too, named Elsa, and maybe another, I'm not sure.

I don't like the sound of it, and it reminds me of 'thorax'.

I would love to see it on a person :)

I love it, but...I wouldn't say it means "thunder goddess". Thora is the feminine version of Thor who was the god of war, thunder and strength. But that doesn't make Thora a thunder goddess. The closest you can get to that meaning is Thordis (Thor's goddess). Dís = goddess.

It doesn't mean that it's correct.Sigrid is just pointing out the etymology behind the name, nothing else.

I know. I was just saying thats where I got it from, so I wasn't just making it up.

I associate it with the great though decidedly unglamorous Dame Thora Hurd. If I can get past that association I will concede the name's merits as an uncommon and attractive one, a fitting sibset for Freya, perhaps.

I find Thora stunning. It's very strong as well, and has a lovely image for me. (:

I love Thora. I don't like Thor too much on a boy, for some reason.

I like the way Thora looks and I like its meaning, however, I just can't get over how similar it is to the words 'thorax' or 'thoracic.'

I really like Thora. Just keep in mind that in Germany it would be pronounced like Torah, the Jewish holy book. That may or may not be a problem to you. I assume you would pronounce the TH.

Yes I would.
