I like both, but I prefer Eleanor. It sounds so dignified and beautiful.I pronounce Elena e-LE-na and Eleanor EL-ə-nor.I don't really care for Ella because it sounds childish to me and is overly popular these days, but it's better as a nickname than a full name. I don't mind it all that much as a nickname for Eleanor or Elena. I like Elle and Ellie much better, though. I really like Elena Fleur and Eleanor Simone.

I pronounce them very differently. Eleanor = EL-i-nor & Elena = eh-LAY-na or eh-LEH-na. My favorite is Eleanor (spelled Elinor). I like Ella as a nickname for both Elinor and Elena, although it wouldn't be my first pick. I'd probably use Elle for Elinor and Lena for Elena. I'm in love with Elinor Daphne right now. I'm not sure about an Elena combo. Elena Madeleine, perhaps.

Where I live, Elena would be i-LEEuh-naa, which puts me right off.I like Eleanor very much, certainly enough to use. But Ella is more of an independent name than a nn to me, and all the Eleanors I know use the full form.

I strongly prefer Eleanor.I do pronounce them differently: Eleanor is EL-uh-nor and Elena is eh-LAY-nuh.Ella is fine as a nickname for either. My favorite Eleanor combos are Eleanor Daisy and Eleanor Violet. I would go with Elena Catherine or Elena Martine for that name.

I prefer Eleanor because it sounds regal and medieval, and I pronounce it -nor rather than the -nuh in Elena
Eleanor Marguerite

I prefer Eleanor overall. I also prefer Ella as a nickname for Eleanor, although I would not use it.

I love both! I prefer Elena for a first name and Eleanor for a middle name.
I don't really like Ella as a nn because it's so popular, but it isn't bad. I also like Elen as a nn.
I say EL-en-or and EL-en-a. I pronounce them differently because I have an American accent, so the "or" in Eleanor sounds like the word "or" and the "a" in Elena is just a schwa.
I also like Elanor!

I love Eleanor, if my son was a girl I would have wanted to name her Eleanor. You could call her Ella or even Nora or Ellie.I pronounce Eleanor - Ella-nor and Elena is Ellen-ah.

I like Elena, but I LOVE Eleanor. I don't really like a nickname for Elena, and though I could justify a nickname for Eleanor, it's just such a beautiful name that using another name in its stead is almost sacrilege. I would personally use Nell for Eleanor, but that's just a personal preference. I really, really like Ella, but I would use it either as a stand alone name or as a nickname for Elizabeth / Elisabeth. As for middle names, I'm feeling Eleanor Frances and Elena Isabel today.

My pronounciation of Elena seems to change daily! Today I'm saying el-AY-na, which Eleanor is EL-a-nor. Consequently I prefer Eleanor - Elena has too many pronounciation options , leading to confusion. Also I think Eleanor looks more classic, which Elena looks a little too modern and simplified.Ella is a cute nickname, but it's sooo common. I like Nora as a nickname for Eleanor!

I prefer Eleanor.I pronounce Elena "eh-LEY-na" even though the only Elena I've known pronounced it "EH-leh-nuh" (the same as I pronounce Eleanor).
