So, one day this teacher I know was calling around about kids who might potentially join our school. She had a list of people, and one of the kids was a girl who had the name 'La-a.'
The teacher assumed the most obvious and when she called she pronounced the name sort of like Lea. She immediately got a retort from the mother stating that the dash wasn't silent, and her child's name was infact pronounced 'Ladasha.'
