Any thoughts on Carola?
Pronounced carol-uh like the English writer Carola Oman. Caroline is one of my alltime favourites but it rhymes with my surname. I thought Carola (nn Carrie) might substitute.

I recently met one at college though she's German. It's pretty, suits her, though I'm not huge on it.

Reminds me too much of the Toyota Corolla car line. It is a very common and popular car line. I don't know how common Toyota's are in the UK but I would never use the name in the US. They are almost pronounced the same, Corolla is pronounced cah-rol-lah. Rol being pronounced like bowl with an r instead of a b. You pronounce Carola as care-ol-ah, so they are a little different but not enough in my opinion for this name to be used some place where the Corolla is a common car. I just hate car associations with names. It's really the only issue I have with the name Mercedes.Carola also reminds me of Crayola brand crayons.Ignoring the car and the crayon thing I'm not a huge fan of Carola. It is okay. I prefer Caroline and Carole / Carol. But if you love it you should use it.

Like someone else said, to me it sounds like Crayola and Carolla. Besides those facts, like they also said, I don't particularly like it. I do like Caroline and Carol. But if you dont want to do Caroline, what about Carolyn or Carolina? I knew someone named Carolyn and I think it is a beautiful name. :)

Not a fan. It feels like a completely unnecessary elaboration of Carol. Is Carolina possible?

I love that name. I don't know why it wasn't on my long list until just now. I think it's very usable. The only problem I have is that, written down, it looks a lot like "canola."

I like it very much. My daughter's name is Carol (of course, I like it!), however, some of my Middle East in-laws suppose that her name is, in fact, Carola, or Carolina. (Caro-LEEN-uh.)I let that ride, it does no harm.

I forgot that that you can also pronounce Carolina as ker-uh-LEEN-ah. I much prefer that pronunciation to ker-uh-LIEN-ah, because it doesn't remind me as much of the state. I don't dislike the state, I just really dislike place names. I think in the UK people are less likely to just assume Carolina is pronounced like the state.Someone else suggested Carolyn. I forgot about Carolyn. I like Carolyn, I use to dislike the name when I was younger but I grew to appreciate it.

I prefer Carole (two syllables). But Carola is just as nice. Carrie is a darling nn.

Here in Sweden it's so very much associated with a singer who is sooo irritating and says so many stupid things. So that's the only thing I can think of when I hear the name. Historically, the name was pr. KAH-ro-luh in Swedish, but the singer pr. it ka-RAW-luh, so now it's the pr. people usually use.

Yeah I only really associate it with the singer too.

It's kind of hard to say for some reason, but I like the sound. A Carola would probably have to be constantly telling people her name isn't Carolyn, but that's a small price to pay for a name that is much nicer. The only Carola I ever know pronounced it like /ca ROLE a/, which just reminds me of a Toyota Corolla.

I really, really dislike the sound. I don't think the "carol-uh" pronunciation would be the natural pronunciation for many people, though that depends on where in the world you are.I do like Carrie. What about just Caroline? Carolina (kah-ro-LEE-nah)? Though Carolina may get the North/South Carolina pronunciation.

I quite like it.

It's interesting, but I immediately thought of the Toyota Corolla. I'd stick with Carol / Carole, Caroline, Carolina, or Carolyn. I like Carolee as well.
